MealCart is built by Focal Studio. This policy explains what data the app collects,
why, and how you can remove it. If anything here is unclear, email
focalstudio.apps@gmail.com.
Most of your data never leaves your phone. Your recipes, meal plans,
and shopping lists are stored locally on your device. Data is only sent to our servers
if you create an account, and only what is needed for sign-in and for sharing with a
family group.
1. Information We Collect
Stored only on your device
These never reach our servers unless you explicitly share them with a family group:
- Recipes you add, import, or photograph
- Meal plans and calendar entries
- Shopping lists and custom ingredients
- Your household profile and preferences (household size, dietary settings)
- App settings such as theme and notification preferences
Stored on our servers
- Account details — your email address and display name, used to sign you in.
- Family group data — if you create or join a family group: the group and its membership, plus any recipes or shopping list items you share into that group so other members can see them.
Collected automatically
- Anonymous usage analytics — which screens are opened and which features are used, so we can see what needs improving. These events are not linked to your name or email, and you can turn them off entirely (see section 4).
- Crash and error reports — technical details about failures, used only to fix bugs.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers, data
brokers, or any third party for marketing purposes.
2. Where Your Data Lives
On-device data is held in your phone's app storage and is removed when you uninstall
the app. Account and family-group data is stored on Supabase, our hosted backend.
Data in transit is encrypted over HTTPS, and database access rules restrict every
record so that you can only read and write your own data and that of groups you belong to.
3. Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Data shared |
| Supabase | Account sign-in and family-group sync | Email, display name, group membership, shared items |
| PostHog | Anonymous product analytics | Anonymous usage events only |
| Apple / Google | App distribution and crash reporting | Handled under their own privacy policies |
4. Turning Off Analytics
Analytics is optional. Open Settings → Privacy in the app and turn the
Analytics toggle off. No further usage events are sent from that point
on, and your choice persists across app restarts and updates.
5. Permissions
MealCart requests only the permissions it needs, and each one is optional:
- Notifications — for meal reminders you opt into. Denying this does not limit any other feature.
- Camera — only when you choose to photograph a recipe to import it.
- Photo library — only when you choose an existing photo to import a recipe from.
Recipe photos are processed for import and stored on your device. We do not upload your photo library.
6. How to Delete Your Account and Data
You can delete your account and its data at any time, directly in the app:
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to Danger Zone.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm.
Deleted immediately and permanently:
- Your account and sign-in credentials
- Your profile (email address and display name)
- Your membership of any family groups
- All recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, and settings stored on your device
Retained, and why:
-
Content you shared into a family group — recipes and shopping list
items you added to a shared group remain visible to that group's other members, but
are permanently de-attributed from you: the link to your account is erased and cannot
be restored. This is so deleting your account does not delete other people's shopping
lists. If you want this content removed too, remove it from the group before deleting
your account, or email us and we will remove it for you.
-
Family groups you created — a group you created continues to exist
for its remaining members, with your authorship record erased. Groups with no
remaining members hold no personal data.
-
Anonymous analytics events — these contain no information identifying
you and therefore cannot be traced back to, or removed for, a deleted account.
No longer have the app installed? Email
focalstudio.apps@gmail.com
from the address on your account with the subject "Data Deletion Request". We will
confirm your identity and delete the account within 30 days.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to
access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain
processing. Deletion is available in-app as described above; for any other request,
email focalstudio.apps@gmail.com and we
will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
MealCart is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from
them. If you believe a child has provided us data, email
focalstudio.apps@gmail.com and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date at the top always
reflects the current version. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
